Kelly Services is a strategic supplier and business partner to the federal government and its key suppliers. We are seeking temporary help ( 6 - 12 months) from a Chemical Engineer/Biochemical Engineer to support our client in microbial fuel cell research activities in Lemont, IL as described below. Lemont is 30 miles from Chicago.

US citizenship is required

TASKS

The ideal candidate will:

  • Maintain and operate bioreactors, such as fluidized bed reactor and microbial fuel cells for production of fuels and products from waste streams
  • Conduct analyses of samples collected from bioreactor and membrane filtration operations at lab-scale and pilot-scale
  • Operate manual and automatic lab instruments and equipment
  • Conduct techno-economic analysis and design of processes and plants
  • Analytical techniques such as FT-IR, UV-VIS, GC and HPLC.
  • Manage lab activities, including the analysis of health and safety hazards, the preparation of suitable health and safety plans, and the maintenance of a neat, clean and organized environment in the lab.
  • Manage sample collection, archives, and analytical data files
  • Considerable skills in oral, written and presentation communications.

REQUIREMENTS

The ideal candidate should have

  • BS in Chemical or Biochemical Engineering
  • Experience with the running bioreactors, analyzing samples from bioreactors using analytical equipment
  • Experience in techno-economic analysis and modelling of processes, proficiency with Excel and Matlab, and process simulation software (Aspen or ChemCAD). 
  • Process simulation and design experience
  • Experience in assessing health and safety hazards and controls as well as QA/QC, and in writing Environmental Health and Safety plans for research projects
  • Valid driver’s license
  • US citizenship is required

July 9, 2017 Scientific Analyst (part time)-Columbus, OH

Kelly Government Solutions is a strategic supplier and business partner to the federal government and its key suppliers. We are currently seeking a Scientific Analyst to provide support involving the evaluation and assessment of a new cutting-edge laboratory-based technology. 

The position is part-time and temporary (280 hours over a 3 – 6 month period). This position is located in Columbus, Ohio.

TASKS: The contractor shall:

  1. Evaluate a laboratory technology kit and the subsequent modification and/or development of the protocols associated with the kit to achieve different results.
  2. Subsequently modify and/or develop protocols performed through open research and then evaluated by the Contractor in the laboratory.
  3. Plan and log all daily research and laboratory activities.
  4. Communicate daily with Program Management staff to accurately capture plans and activities.
  5. Work independently in a laboratory environment, display an interest in successfully achieving the goals of the technology research and implementation.
  6. Maintain good work attendance record and be punctual for all project work.

REQUIREMENTS: The contractor must have the following:

  1. PhD in molecular biology, microbiology or equivalent, with less than 2 years of post-doctoral experience OR
    • PhD student / MS in molecular biology, microbiology or equivalent, chemistry, physics, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or computer science OR 
    • BS/BA in a related field.
  2. Proven ability to conduct experiments according to provided procedures.
  3. Ability and willingness to work in biological laboratories and to adhere to established safety guidelines.
  4. Sufficiently medically fit to work in the laboratory to perform assigned duties.
  5. Experience with Microsoft Windows operating system and Microsoft Office, as well as general online research capabilities (use of search terms).
  6. Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  7. Must be eligible to obtain and maintain DoD secret clearance as a condition of employment.

Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Outlook and Word

Required Skills:

Willing and able to make quality outbound telephone calls to prospective customers

Excellent verbal and written communication skills (English)

Ability to multitask including computer data lookup and entry while on the phone

Ability to work in a fast-paced environment where flexibility is highly valued

Attention to detail

Strong problem-solving skills

Good organizational skills

Proper pronunciation of chemical products is a key skill (training provided)

The work environment is primarily an office setting, which requires finger dexterity, movement around the office area, occasional walking and periods at the desk area (sitting or standing).
